Know and Go Safety Class for Children
On Sept 10, James Bailey and other instructors from TaeKwonDo Plus taught a free Safety Awareness and Self-Defense
Class for children based on the “KNOW and GO” children’s safety program developed by CDT.- (www.tompatire.com).
For the past 25 years James Bailey has been providing Martial Arts, Self-Defense and Life Skill training for children
and adults of Tuscaloosa County. Thousands of men, women, and children have benefited from the life skills and tenets
taught at TaeKwonDo Plus. With respect to the upcoming “Know and Go” class James Bailey said, “It is our goal and
community responsibility to put every child through this program free of charge.” The FREE Know and Go program is
sponsored and provided by James Bailey’s TaeKwonDo Plus as well as by several local business who have provided monetary
backing for the class.
Knowing that most children are not “safety conscious” and will not know how to react in a potentially harmful situation,
Tom Patire (the founder of CDT) created a fun-filled program based on sound recognition and proper movements to teach
children how to avoid the most common harmful situations a child will face between the ages of 4 and 12. This program is
designed to train the audile recognition patter (hearing) and the eye-hand and eye-foot (reflexes) in order to help the
child live a safer and more cautious life. The children will be taught in a friendly and fun environment to learn to
recognize specific sounds that can lead to unintentional or intentional dangerous situations. By using a unique obstacle
course, children are taught to recognize audible sounds while using proper movement to keep them safe.
Being a parent or guardian isn’t simply about nursing a sick child, putting a roof over their head and food on the table,
or helping them with homework. It’s also about helping our children grow and develop as young people, about preparing them
for all life has to offer – the good and bad – particularly in these times. Realizing that taking care and looking for a
child’s well being is no easy task the KNOW and GO Safety Program was developed by a parent for that reason.
Injuries to children lurk in many different situations and because of that children need to learn how to read potential danger
signs, and need to be trained properly on how to deal with any situation that can be unsafe. This year alone, tens of thousands
of children across the world will become victims of intentional and unintentional injuries. Incidents like getting cut by glass,
being trampled in a crowd, smoke inhalation, being hit by a motor vehicle, and a parents worst fear – being abducted, will happen
more than we want to think about. The KNOW and GO program is designed to help avoid these harmful situations.
