Marty Sellers
I was born in Tuscaloosa at DCH Regional Medical Center (then Druid City Hospital) March 3, 1969.
I'm the youngest of three children. I have a brother, Shannon Sellers, and a sister. My sister,
Ms. Tammy Sawyer, also takes TaeKwonDo and is one of our South instructors. My mom and dad, Mr.
Billy Sellers and Mrs. Barbara Sellers, have been huge pillars of stability and wisdom in my life.
They raised us to be people who believe in hard work and who try to live their lives based on the
principles taught in the Bible. I made the most important decision of my life when I became a
Christian April 30, 1978. I attended Brookwood Elementary and Brookwood High School. I also
attended the University of Alabama where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a
minor in Sociology. The Lord allowed me to realize my life long dream of becoming a police officer
July 2, 1990. I began a rewarding 11 1/2 year career as a Tuscaloosa City police officer where I
achieved the rank of Sergeant and worked in many different fields of law enforcement including the
TPD Special Response Team. I ended my career as a patrol division supervisor and Sniper Team Leader
on the SRT.
I began training in TaeKwonDo in October 20, 1999. Mr. Heath Riggs was my first instructor. I began
TKD to learn extra self defense so I would be better prepared to work as a police officer. I fell in
love with the program and came to class 6 days a week. I became a black belt in June of 2001. By
this time, I realized that being an instructor and school owner was my new life goal. I immediately
got involved in the instructor program and began to work for Mr. Bailey part time. I came on staff
full time January 2, 2002. I have been blessed to be a part of this program and hope that I will
continue here many more years. The staff, students and families in our academies make this job the
best job in the world!!
