Michael Holt
I am living out a dream. I never imagined that I could actually find the perfect
profession, but I have. Being a TaeKwonDo instructor is the best job in the world.
I was born in Athens, AL to Wayne and Shirley Holt on August 5, 1975. For 13 years,
I attended Athens Bible School, a private school focused on giving its students a great
education as well as a great desire to serve God. After my high school graduation I
was sure of two things. First, I was sure I wanted to be a mechanical engineer, and
second, I was sure I wanted to begin training in TaeKwonDo. Involvement in athletics
was very important to me during my early years and high schools years. With options
limited as to what I could participate in after high school, I felt the martial arts
would be a great fit. I began taking TaeKwonDo in the fall of 1993. In June of 1995,
my first long term TaeKwonDo goal was reached as I was awarded my black belt. In January
of 1997 my second long term goal was reached as I was awarded my instructor certification.
In the fall of 1993 I began my college education as welI. I went through 5 years of
undergraduate studies and earned my Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The
University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). After engineering school, I wanted to further
my education so that I would be prepared for a managerial engineering position in the
engineering profession. I decided to move to Tuscaloosa and pursue my Master in Business
Administration (MBA) at the great University of Alabama. While in Tuscaloosa I began
training and teaching TaeKwonDo under Master Bailey. This is how I was introduced to the
true joy of teaching and training in TaeKwonDo as a full time job. Master Bailey gave me
the opportunity to manage the school in Northport. I began managing it while I completed
my MBA degree at the University of Alabama. I graduated with the MBA degree in May of 2000.
I have continued to manage the school ever since. I am currently a 5th Degree blackbelt.
The school has continued to grow and we are blessed to teach the best martial artists in the
world. I am a member at Northwood Church of Christ. I want everyone to remember the bible
verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. We can be anything and do
anything that we want as long as we look to God for guidance. With hard work and trust in
God anything can happen. I was married in August of 2001 to Melissa Holt. I am so excited
that I have found someone that I can share my life with and the joy of this profession.
Melissa is a senior third degree blackbelt and certified TaeKwonDo instructor at the Northport
Academy. God has blessed me tremendously, and I pray he continues to do so through my marriage,
family, and profession.
